Maryland Sheep & Wool

It’s hard to believe that Maryland Sheep & Wool is only 7 days from today!  Kristi and I are so excited and have some really fun things planned for you this year.

We will be located in the All About Yarn in Tent E-3.
There will be lot’s of Breathless, Breathless DK, Homage, Haven and Honey Worsted with us.

Be sure to sign up for our email list (it’s on the bottom of the linked page) to get money saving coupons for Breathless and Homage to use at the show.

On Saturday we will have mini skeins of Breathless DK to hand out.

And on Saturday FickleKnitter will be joining us from 2:00 - 2:30 for a meet and greet!


We will have a sample of her Breathless One Skein Shawl and the pattern available all weekend.




On Sunday

MindofWinter aka Julia Trice will be at our booth from 10:30 - 11:00. We will have her fab patterns like Adiri and Sola available all weekend too!

April is going to be a really busy and fun filled month here at Shalimar Yarns!  We have our Knitters Gone Wild KAL on Ravelry going in full swing.  There are a lot of cowls and scarfs being knitted and a few sweaters too.  It's not too late to cast on for a spring accessory in one of our yarns for a chance to win one of the great prizes: a $25 gift certificate to the Shalimar Yarns Etsy Shop, an 8" Midi Project Bag from Three Bags Full, an Emanuela Pattern from PaulinaP, a KnitKnitUSA iPad app which locates LYS all over the country, and a set of stitch markers from Little Skein in the Big Wool.  I've been working on a Frost in Bloom scarf in Breathless Love Potion for the KAL.  The color is really fantastic and makes me smile every time I look at it!

Kristi is working on Bartenders Choice in Breathless Slag, Butterscotch and Ore. It's Thea Colman's new pattern and I can't wait to see Kristi's mitt when they are done!

Upcoming Events and the Release of New Yarns

We have several exciting events coming in the next few weeks! 

 This Friday, April 20, Anne Hanson will be teaching a Sweater Fitness Workshop at our studio in New Market, MD.  It sold out very quickly but we do have a waiting list if you are interested.  To be added to the list please send your name and phone number to: Shalimaryarns@aol.com

Maryland Sheep and Wool is just a few weeks away - May 5 &6.  Kristi has been dying up a great variety of colors for Breathless, Zoe and our two new yarns! We will be in the All About Yarn tent, spot E3 on the festival map.  On Saturday at 1:00 we will be having a meet and greet.  Be sure to stop by and say hello.  We look forward to seeing you there. 

Our two new bases making their debut appearance are:

  Ardent which is a 100% silk lace.  Ardent produces a silky smooth and drapey fabric with a lovely sheen. It’s perfect for shawls, wraps, shells and other similar projects.  Ive just finished a summer wrap in Ardent and it has a wonderful hand and blocks beautifully.  It's really a joy to knit with.

Also debuting at MDSW will be our new DK weight, Haven.  A 5-ply Merino and Tussah Silk DK weight.  Haven is perfect for showing off cables and stitch patterns at their very best and has a soft, matte finish that is wonderful for sweaters, shawls, wraps, and baby projects.

We will be exhibiting at TNNA June 23 - 25 in Columbus, OH. 

 We hope that you will be able to stop by and meet us at one of these events.  We really enjoy getting to meet our customers in person and seeing what they have created with our yarns.  If you haven't had a chance to try our yarns yet, this is the perfect opportunity to see and feel them in person.

Laura Nelkin has designed a fantastic shawl using Shalimar's Breathless.  If you leave a comment on Laura's blog by September 3rd at high noon you will have a chance to win the pattern and Breathless to knit it!

Sheep & Wool Countdown

Between dyeing for shop orders and supply for Sheep & Wool, it's been pretty crazy around here.

And even though the weather is all over the board, we're thinking spring with two new Stonewash colors, Peachy Keen and Lemon Curd:



But we're also planning for our fall colorway and pattern introductions. One of the designs that we have in the works is Tellus, a textured, versatile wrap. Tellus will be available not only as an individual pattern, but also as a kit. We will be offering four different and unique colorways for this lovely wrap...so there is a colorway for everyone!

We really meant to get this post up last night, but with all the packing, unpacking, inventorying and general melee, somehow we never even got near a computer. I think we were still overwhelmed by how much fun we had this weekend and all the great people we met. A hearty and sincere thanks to everyone who came by the tent, and for all the compliments we had on Shalimar Yarns. Now on to the important stuff.

Teasers and Pleasers

We've been pretty busy lately getting all our sheeps in a row for Maryland Sheep & Wool in a few weeks--May 2nd & 3rd for those who live under a rock. Find us in E-20 (All About Yarn's Tent).

We will be debuting our new Stonewash colorways-Damson and Sno Pea. They are very springy and I happen to love them both. We are also introducing several new patterns by the talented Hannah Six (she is Knitsix on Ravelry).

Teasers-one of the patterns uses Honey Worsted in some of the colors shown here. This yarn is superb and it holds up wonderfully. Not only is it machine washable, but it is soft and has a delightful hand. I love working with it.

Pleasers-This was Paul's idea and it is GRAND! For every skein of Shalimar yarn purchased at Sheep & Wool, you will have 1 (one) ticket put into the Raffle bowl for a Namaste Zuma bag!
