Here is what Julia has in store for us:
Shalimar’s 7th anniversary is this year, and to celebrate we will be
having a month-long extravaganza in March for all things Shalimar! I say
“we” because I will be helping to spearhead Shalimarch as a guest
moderator and tour guide extraordinaire (gotta have a cool title if you
do the work, right?). The month will include knit and crochet -alongs,
contests, designer discounts, and prizes. We’re going to start gearing
up right away with the release of new exciting patterns designed
especially for Shalimar yarns, including several from yours truly. The
new designs will be released periodically between now and March 31,
2014, accompanied by updates so that you can get the perfect yarn for
your projects and start planning for Shalimarch before it arrives.
Excited? Here are some essential things you’ll want to know. If you have
questions, please post them in this thread so that everyone can share
in the information. I will answer you as soon as humanly possible, and
add all really important information to this post so that you can find
it easily.
When is Shalimarch?
March, sillies! All KAL / CAL’s will begin at midnight EST March 1, 2014 and end March 31, 2014 at midnight EST. There is one exception, and that is the garments KAL/CAL. Anyone knitting a garment (child or adult) with Shalimar yarn can begin knitting on February 1, 2014 at midnight EST. Garments take longer, and we don’t want to leave out our sweater knitters (like me!).
How do I participate in the KAL / CAL’s?
You can start by joining the Shalimar group! Then pick an appropriate KAL / CAL and Shalimar yarn for your project. We will have two KAL / CAL’s for general types of projects:
• Garments & Shawls
• Smaller Accessories: Cowls, Scarves, Hats & Mittens
Additionally, we will have 2 KAL / CAL’s of your choosing. There will be a thread to pick the group-chosen KAL / CAL’s, so look for it soon – the sky’s the limit, so be creative!
Every group will have an FO thread (no chat) and a chat thread. We urge you to participate in the chat threads while you are choosing yarn bases and colorways, deciding which patterns to use, and working on your WIPs. When you are done, feel free to cross-post FO’s in the chat and FO threads. Only the FO’s in the FO thread will be eligible for prizes, so please be sure to post there, but post in the chat thread, too – your friends will be excited to not only see your FO’s, but comment on them as well. Be sure to tag your FO’s “shalimarch2014”. Every thread will have detailed rules and information posted in the header. We will pick winners in the FO threads using a random number generator.
How do I enter the contests?
We will have most yardage and most FO contest threads with the details listed. You can enter projects to win prizes in individual KAL / CAL’s and in the contests.
How do I donate prizes?
First of all, if you are donating a prize – thank you! We are happy to accept patterns and tools related to knitting and crochet. Just PM me and we’ll talk!
How can designers participate?
We encourage designers who would like to discount their designs for Shalimarch to post in the designer discount thread. You can post any time between now and March 31, for as long a period as you like and for any amount of discount. Just be sure to specify the terms of your offer in the thread and have customers use the code “shalimarch2014” so that we can avoid any code confusion. If you have questions, feel free to PM me.
